While I was starting my blogging, I didn’t had proper tools for writing blog posts , capturing screen shots, editing the images etc , which made me to do a lot of work with the basic windows tools. Obviously, it would be a tough job for quite some time, that is, until I found these utilities. There started my search for proper blog tools, so that it would power my blogging. Though I use Windows, I felt that providing a list for other Operating System users would be helpful.

So, here are my choice , that would power your blogging.

Windows

Notepad++ – A free and best notepad + editor for any programming language. I’ve developed My Mind Leaks entirely using this Notepad++

w.bloggar – An all-in-all offline blog editor for windows. You write, edit and post to any number of blog platform.

Techsmith SnagIt – A cool and best screen capture tool for Windows. But it costs $40. It’s worth for it.

Screen Hunter – If you feel you can’t afford for SnagIt , try Screen Hunter. It’s free.

Gimp for Windows – A open source image editing replacement program for Windows, which is considered an equivalent software for Adobe Photoshop.

Linux

Gimp for Linux – A famous open source image editing tool. No more explanation needed.

Nvu – a replacement for Windows Live Writer – Nvu ( pronounced as New view ) is a Open source web page editor, which is always considered as a replacement for Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe Macromedia. Nvu can be used as a Web editor

KSnapshot – KSnapshot is a simple applet for taking screenshots. It is capable of capturing images of either the whole desktop, or just a single window. The images can then be saved, or passed to another application using drag and drop.

Apple Mac

Secret Capture, shipped with Mac OS

Qumana – A simple offline blog editor for Mac & Windows. If you are TextMate for Mac, then you don’t need any replacement.

Seashore – Gimp for Mac – Self described

Platform independent tools

Firefox – Already a famous and known browser

ScribeFire – ScribeFire is an extension for the Mozilla Firefox Web browser that integrates with your browser to let you easily post to your blog: you can drag and drop formatted text from pages you are browsing, take notes, and post to your blog.

WordPress – A famous CMS , you should really use this as your blog platform. The main advantage is, you will find hell a lot of plugins for power blogging.
